That was a sunny day of 1972.A book shop was started in New Market, Dibrugarh.Gradually it has grown up and that tiny seedling becomes a full grown tree. It has spread its branches and in 1990 a branch office was started in Guwahati Panbazar with an aim to serve Assamese literature and Assamese reader more seriously. Almost Four decades have passed and now that small book shop has been counted among one of the aristocratic and huge publication houses in Assam today.Yes it is BANALATA-the One Stop for Unusual and Unparallel Books.

Founded by Mr. Makhan Hazarika,it has now flourished with the support of two eligible shoulders of Mr.Ananta Hazarika and Mr.Pradyut Hazarika. Mr. Pradyut Hazarika representing the second generation shows his kin interest  on book publishing .

From its inception BANALATA has been publishing various books from diverse fields right from religion to recipe and beauty tips.Fiction, non fiction to travelogue and it has rich collection of children books.Banalata has a huge collection of text books, references and guide books published by Academic section of Banalata. Banalata has been taking part actively the intellectual movement of Assam in recent times.Banalata Sahitya is a half yearly magazine published from BANALATA which covers mission, vision and motto of BANALATA and contributes to Assamese literature immensely.

In the glorious journey of 38 years BANALATA has been serving the nation continuously and in the coming days it has a vision of better serving the people by publishing rare manuscripts, classic books(translation),world class book gallery in this region and other books having social values. It also has a vision of encouraging the new young generation writers by publishing their works.
